Cricket history to be made this summer… but what about the WACA?

Perth will host its first ever International day-night Test match this summer New Zealand at Perth Stadium. It’ll be the first match of the Domain Test Series, with the first pink ball to be bowled on Thursday 12 December.

WACA CEO Christina Matthews spoke to Oliver Peterson about this huge coup for WA cricket fans and to discuss the future of the old WACA ground.

“I think the stadium is perfectly set to host a day-night test.

“It’s another history making event for cricket in Perth and the stadium itself.”

Despite this good news, questions remain about funding for WA cricket and the WACA ground.

“East coast sports clubs have got over $130 million and there’s only been $16 million come to sport in WA from an infrastructure point of view.

“From a cricket point of view, there been nothing come our way. We think it’s time cricket in this state was given a fair opportunity by our federal politicians.”
