Wrapping up the 2025 WA state election, Simon Beaumont examines what the state can expect from its members of parliament

Perth Today host Simon Beaumont takes stock after the 2025 election wraps up, speaking to Labor, Liberal, and Independent candidates about what the future holds for WA’s government.
Simon spoke to Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti, who had a convincing win in her electorate.
He asked Rita what projects will be taking priority this term and why she felt Labor so easily secured its third term in office.
“Over the past 8 years, we’ve been a really united, focused government. We want to continue to be united, focused on delivery,” she said.

Liam Staltari won the Liberals seat of Carine back. The young MP spoke on Perth Today about his confidence in his party moving forward.
“I think this is a government that’s been cocky, they’ll be more cocky after this result and I think they’re in for a rude surprise because the Liberal party will be back,” he said.

A close count in Fremantle could see Kate Hulett, an independent candidate, threaten a 100-year-old Labor seat.
Kate discussed reports that voters were turned away at the polling booth.
“All we care about is that we are upholding our democracy and every person’s vote gets counted,” she said.
