Is it time for a car free cappuccino strip?

There are calls to ban cars in parts of the famous cappuccino strip in Fremantle over concerns social distancing isn’t possible for pedestrians. Another argument being put forward by the council is it will improve pedestrian safety.

Fremantle Chamber of Commerce CEO Danicia Quinlan joined Perth LIVE where she told Oliver Peterson their priority is getting people to Fremantle and enabling people to explore the streets but closing off the strip can “create significant challenges.”

“From a Chamber perspective we don’t think that cutting off the cappuccino strip to vehicle traffic is a sound solution.

“We’d like to see some slowing down of traffic through West End but that movement of people, whether it’s in a vehicle [or] whether it’s walking, enables people to be reminded of all the amazing things they can discover in Fremantle.”
