City of Stirling votes to keep Councillors political affiliations secret

City of Stirling Councillor Stephanie Proud had her motion for local Councillors to disclose their political affiliations defeated at a council meeting on Tuesday.

Councillor Proud spoke to Oliver Peterson to explain that the motion got very little support even though another local council had already passed a similar motion.

“Councillors are a very public figures in a very public arena.

“I believe our residents are entitled to know any political associations we have any involvement with or are a member of.

“All I was doing with this motion was simply adding this to a suite of transparency and accountable aspects we’ve already got publicly available on the City’s website.”
