6PR listeners have flooded the studio livid at the treatment of Colin Minson and other patients in WA hospices.

Mr Minson was on Liam Bartlett’s Mornings program on Friday from his hospice bed, alone, as he faces imminent death.

Caller Susan was just one listener left shocked at the heartless decisions of WA Health and the government.

“I’m just so disgusted with our politicians. You know, get triple vaxxed, get your booster, get this, and get that but we’re still going to lock you out, we’re still going to let Colin die alone, we’re still going to let that person die alone,” she told the program.

“I share your disgust,” Liam replied. “It’s the compassion in this argument that is completely missing, it is completely devoid of passion.”

“I’ve cried for half an hour over this because my parents died and I stayed with them for the days that they were dying and never left their side,” Susan responded.

“And if I hadn’t been able to do that, I would have been psychologically damaged. Thank god my parents aren’t here in this day and age to have to live through this, because it’s criminal.”

“Good on you, because you’re a real human being,” Liam said.

“Colin is one person. There’s 20 others in that same hospice, then there’s other hospices along the way, people being allowed to die on their own, without their loved ones holding their hand, at least.”

Earlier, WA Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast he anticipated code red conditions at WA hospitals to remain in place for at least three to four weeks while the impact of the Omicron spread was at its peak.

“We’ve been doing some work on the visitor guidelines in the last 24 hours… we now allow for spouses, partners to come in if the partner is in a critical condition,” Dr Robertson said, oblivious to what was actually occurring at WA hospices.
