The family of a West Australian football great have called on WA Health to allow relatives access to dying loved ones at hospices across the state.

The state’s new level two COVID-19 restrictions prevent people from visiting their dying loved ones.

WA football legend Colin Minson is one such patient unable to see his family and, along with his wife Irene, told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings the ‘inhumane’ situation needed to change for all families in similar situations.

“People in hospice, it’s the end of the line for them, they don’t go there for nothing,” Irene said.

“He could die any time, he could die overnight, he could die now.. he’s in danger of having a heart attack now, or a hemorrhage.

“The staff at the (St John of God Murdoch hospice) facility are shocked, but they are just following the rules.”

Colin told Liam a patient at the hospice died on his own last night, and today he’s planning his own funeral on his own.

“It’s not just about us, it’s about every family in the hospice,” he told Liam.
