Shuey saves the game

Luke Shuey has won the game for the West Coast Eagles with a goal after the siren in extra time. The scores were leveled at 60-points apiece at the final siren forcing the Elimination into an extra time in the do or die clash.

Port Adelaide looked like they were going to win with four-points the difference in the dying seconds, but a high tackle on Shuey in West Coast’s forward line left the game in the Eagle’s hands/boots. Groans filled Adelaide Oval as the ball floated through the big sticks for the 10.16 (76) to 12.6 (78) victory and to keep his team in the finals.

Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling kicked three goals each while Andrew Gaff clocked up 34 disposals.

“I’ve never been a part of a game like that” Jeremy McGovern spoke with us after the thrilling win.

The Eagles now face Greater Western Sydney at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.

We previewed the game with West Coast assistant coach Justine Longmuir: “I think the thing that holds us in good sted is that the dimensions of this ground is very similar to Subiaco Oval; we defend this ground really well and we get some good ball movement going.”

Port Adelaide assistant coach Aaron Greaves also previewed the game with us.
