Some of Perth’s biggest councils are set to argue for “significant” pay rises, as they claim many bureaucrats are not being paid what they’re owed.

The City of Stirling is leading the charge on the evidence that rapidly-growing council areas are forcing staff into strenuous positions.

“Have a look at the four biggest councils: they take up about half of the state’s population,” Stirling Mayor Mark Irwin told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast.

“We want an increase in the remuneration for councillors on those very large councils, because it’s not a full-time job but they have to be remunerated somehow.”
