Surge in university drop-out rates

A new Productivity Commission report into the country’s universities has found removing a cap on the number of students universities can enrol has led to an increase in drop-out rates.

Productivity Commission chair Michael Brennan told Mornings with Gareth Parker, the extra students enrolled under the uncapped system were more likely to have lower literacy and numeracy levels.
