West Coast premiership player Will Schofield has backed the decision to alter the pay conditions for West Coast’s WAFL team.

Speaking during his regular Tuesday night spot on Wide World of Sports, Schofield was scathing of the restrictions which have been placed on West Coast since entering the WAFL through the alignment model.

“Either have them in and let them try and win a premiership or, don’t have them.”

The biggest change to the rules, announced today, surround total player match payments. Previously, West Coast didn’t have a total limit.

Instead, the rules allowed four players to earn $500, one player earn $400 and the remaining to earn $350.

Now, West Coast will be granted 60% of other clubs’ total cap which is $245 000.

This will potentially allow the Eagles to target some higher-valued players without restriction on maximum match payment.

Schofield argued that it isn’t right to place such heavy restrictions on a WAFL team.

“If you’re going to add in a team, at least give them a chance.”

West Coast will also receive an extra five points in terms of player recruitment, taking their total player points value from 65 to 70.

Additionally, there has been an alteration to player movement. If they are delisted from the senior squad, players who were drafted locally to West Coast will remain with the WAFL team.
