Why Aussies need to have better ‘cyber hygiene’ amid recent data hacks

There are calls to strengthen Australia’s cyber security systems after multiple large-scale attacks put Aussies at risk.

Experts suggest 50 per cent of Aussies have been impacted by recent hacks in the last couple of years.

Associate Dean of Computing and Security at ECU Paul Haskell-Dowland told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons people should protect their data until better cyber security protocols are enforced.

“It’s giving us a flavour of what we are likely to see in the coming years,” said Professor Haskell-Dowland.

“No organisation should ever be storing that kind of government-issued identification for any duration, for any purpose whatsoever.”
