As theft and vandalism continues to hit WA schools hard, several institutions are pushing for more surveillance cameras to catch crooks.

WA Council of State School Organisations President Pania Turner told Karl and Gena on 6PR Breakfast the aim was not to surveil students but out-of-hours intruders.

Press PLAY to hear more about the plan for more CCTV in WA schools

“WACSSO has a very clear position on CCTV cameras in schools are only ever used as a deterrent to criminal activity outside of school hours,” Ms Turner said.

“When vandalism and school break-ins occur, it’s extremely upsetting to staff and students; losing all that work and effort really does impact the community.”
