WA hits record 3594 new Omicron cases but no patients in ICU

WA has recorded a record high of 3594 COVID cases, an increase of more than 25 per cent on the previous day, as the state approaches the peak of its Omicron wave.
More than 15,000 people are isolating with the virus, with 67 people in hospital but, crucially, none of the patients were being treated in intensive care.
There were 17,528 PCR tests, of which 1758 returned positive results. The remaining 1836 cases were self-reported positive RATs.
Every region in WA recorded new infections overnight, with the vast majority in metropolitan Perth (3155 cases).
WA Premier Mark McGowan said he hoped level two restrictions in place across WA, which capped cafe and pub numbers at 150, and home gatherings to 10, would be stepped down by the end of the month.
Since WA’s Omicron wave began in January, there have been more than 25,000 reported cases, and of those, 152 have been admitted to hospital.
The figure is around half of what WA Health authorities forecast in modelling released last month.
