WA COVID update: No masks for primary schools as 15 new cases recorded

Primary school children will initially not be expected to wear masks under the WA Government’s back-to-school COVID-19 plan unveiled on Tuesday.
Under the plan, only teachers and secondary students in Perth, Peel and the South-west will be expected to wear masks when the new school year starts on Monday.
But WA Premier Mark McGowan said mask wearing would be introduced for primary school students from Year 3 if cases began to rise.
Air purifiers that can capture virus particles will be rolled out to schools, with more than 12,000 to be supplied.
Education Minister Sue Ellery said 1500 CO2 monitors would also be supplied to make sure ventilation in classrooms was satisfactory.
6PR reporter Philippa Meagher told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings the government retained capacity to boost measures at schools in the event of a large-scale outbreak.
The protocols were announced along with 15 new COVID cases being recorded in WA overnight, including two with no links to previous infections, increasing the number of exposure sites across the state.
