COVID-19 UPDATE

Western Australia recorded 6892 cases of COVID-19 overnight, with an additional 1100 cases reported to WA Health from positive RATs that were recorded on March 11 and not included in Friday’s numbers.

Premier Mark McGowan said a mistake in not previously recording the positive cases was from the Catholic education system, with the error picked up straight away.

The Health department said an online portal Catholic Education WA uses to assist with contact tracing in schools was central to the mistake.

There are now 243 people in hospital, with six in intensive care and two historical deaths from prior days.

Of the 6892 new cases, 4261 were recorded through self-reported positive RATs.

There are 46,022 active cases across the state and third dose rates are the highest in the country, at 76.5 per cent, while first and second dose rates are above 98 per cent.

Mr McGowan earlier told Steve Mills on 6PR Breakfast WA’s Omicron spread would be analysed in coming days to determine if the state had hit peak case numbers.
