A widow who decided to downsize with her late husband after he was diagnosed with cancer has been left in the dark by one of the state’s biggest residential builders about the status of her new home build.

Upset, angry and emotional, building client Jacquie and husband purchased a house and land package from a local building company – which 6PR has decided not to name today – late last year after her husband’s cancer diagnosis forced them to downsize their mortgage.

“When I originally signed up, because I had a lot of trouble when we built our family home, they said ‘it’s not going to be like that, they have their own builders, their own teams, nothing will affect it’ … that’s what I was led to believe,” she told 6PR Mornings Gary Adshead.

Press PLAY to hear Jacquie explain what the builder has said to her

“They said I just needed to rent somewhere until the end of this year, and that I’d be in my new home by February/March 2023 … nothing has started yet, not even the slab is down.

“Sadly, in September, my husband passed away and he didn’t even get to see any progress of the build, which is sad, and now it’s left me dealing with this by myself.”

Despite promises the house would be finished by early next year, the pad is not even down and her husband has now passed away
