Vaccinating babies: landmark study on preventing infant flu death

Jo McManus

Parents are being urged to take part in a landmark study on vaccinating babies in an effort to keep their children safe from influenza and other serious infections.

Vaccination Director at the Telethon Kids Institute Professor Chris Blyth told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons the study was attempting to plug a gap that lead to many tragic infant deaths every year.

“The problem being is that our flu vaccination program is currently registered form six months of age,” Professor Blyth said.

“But we have studies that show using normal flu vaccinations in that age group are safe and effective.”
