‘I am very worried’: Ukrainian woman fears her family is in danger as war breaks out in Kyiv

Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially ordered a military operation in Ukraine on Thursday morning local time, with war official breaking out in the country.
Anna is a Ukrainian woman who studied in Perth, and currently resides in Switzerland. She believes her family in Kyiv is in danger.
“They woke up today around 4am from the sounds of bombs from the shake of the house and windows,” she said. “So far they just got together in apartment and now they’re thinking what to do next.”
Air-raid sirens were sounding around the city of Kyiv in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Speaking in a press conference on Thursday, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says tougher sanctions will be imposed on Russia.
“I will call it what it is: the Russian government launched a brutal invasion, unprovoked, on Ukraine and should be condemned for doing so,” he said.
US President Joe Biden has said in a statement “The world will hold Russia accountable.”
He has foreshadowed “further consequences” for Russia to come tomorrow.
Anna believes people in the Ukrainian capital can’t leave.
“They’re trying to leave the hotspots because Russia so far is bombing military bases, storages and airports are probably next. My brother told me they bombed radio stations. Everything that would help Ukraine defend itself, they’ve targeted it all,” she told Perth LIVE.
Ukraine has declared martial law following reports of explosions across several cities and Russian troops crossing the border into Ukrainian territory.
“I am very worried. I’m not sure what would be the best thing to do,” Anna said.
