WA Police are set to get two new armoured vehicles for an existing fleet of mean machines that combat some of the force’s most dangerous operations.

BearCats (see vision of them in action below) are used about once a week during raids and high-risk operations.

WA Police Deputy Commissioner Col Blanch revealed the new acquisition first on 6PR Breakfast and told host Gareth Parker they protect police from gunfire during raids.

“They’re upgraded, newer, better, faster,” he told Parker, saying outlaw motorcycle gangs would be a main target of the new machines.

Deputy Commissioner Blanch also confirmed a story broken recently on 6PR Mornings about a new trial of covert cameras designed to capture motorists using their mobile phones while driving, and weighed in on the shocking scenes at a Wanneroo nail salon over a mask wearing dispute.
