Tributes flow after voice of WA cricket Colin Minson dies
Media colleagues and friends have paid tribute to Colin Minson, the voice of WA cricket for 30 years and influential football journalist, who died overnight from acute myeloid leukaemia.
Minson founded Sport FM 91.3, was a life member of the WACA and was honoured by the WA Football Media Guild with the Dennis Cometti award for excellence.
He campaigned on 6PR Mornings less than two weeks ago over the WA government’s ridiculous COVID-19 restrictions that did not allow visitors into hospices.
Former Australian cricketer and WA coach Wayne Clarke thanked 6PR for helping Minson and patients in hospice reconnect with family members and friends while they wait to die.
“It was something that was going to help him but he was just affected by what was happening to the 20 other people in that room, it’s great that you gave him the opportunity,” Clark told Liam Bartlett.
Friend, journalist and colleague John Townsend said Minson was, as always, thinking about other people, even in his final days.
“He was going through a pretty rough time … but he always helped people with a smile on his face, and twinkle in his eye,” he said.
