Thousands without power across Perth

Thousands of homes are still without power after a scorching night across Perth where temperatures didn’t get below 26 degrees.
During the day the mercury hit 40 degrees in the hottest day of the summer so far.
The worst affected suburbs are around Marangaroo and Mirrabooka.
Executive Manager at Western Power, Sam Barbaro, said a number of factors have contributed to the outage
“Unfortunately yesterday, with the first really hot weather of the season, there was a number of faults right across the system that kept our crews really busy,” he said on 6PR Breakfast.
“Some of them transient faults, we were able to fix really quickly, and then others that took a little bit longer.
“And because there was a high bushfire risk, we had to put into place different protocols that requires us to not reenergise until the weather cools.
“That unfortunately can sometimes lead to longer outages.”
