The Federal Government are putting the final touches on a rescue plan to return 16 Australian women and 42 children related to Islamic State members back to Australia.

They are currently being held in the al-Roj detention camp in Syria near the Iraqi border.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) cleared the rescue mission after visiting the camp in the last couple of months.

Shadow Minister for Home Affairs, Karen Andrews, does not agree with the Federal Government’s decision, believing it to be a significant risk.

“I don’t think they should be returning to Australia,” Ms Andrews told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

Ms Andrews claims there are too many unknowns with the Islamic State relatives coming back to Australia.

“They have been exposed to things that are unimaginable for most Australians,” Ms Andrews said.
