Construction is commencing today on the world’s largest radio telescope today, and it’s set to sit just 800 kilometres north of Perth on Wajarri Yamaji country.

The first-of-its-kind Square Kilometre Array Telescope (SKA) will be the largest science facility on Earth, and involve 16 different countries in an international collaboration.

These structures will be able to provide answers to the long enduring mysteries of our millions of galaxies, and will unveil more about space than ever before.

Associate Professor Sascha Schediwy, from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research at UWA, says the next-gen telescope being built in WA’s Mid-West will turn WA into a global astronomy hub.
