Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas has his hands full revitalising the city and businesses, while luring people and workers back to the CBD after the pain of the pandemic.

In the first of his weekly Mayor on Air segments every Friday on 6PR Mornings with Gary Adshead, Zempilas touched on the issue of the day – the nurses rally – and says he understands both sides of the argument from the Australian Nurses Union and McGowan Government.

“I’ve got family members in aged care at the moment who have been in and out of public hospitals a lot in the past 12 months … and it is impossible to have nothing but the greatest of respect for those nurses who put themselves on the line every day to care for people who are not feeling their best,” he said.

“I think as a community we’re probably disappointed when it comes to industrial action, I think we would prefer that it never gets to this and we understand there is posturing on both sides, that’s part of the process.

“We also like our process because it has an umpire, and that’s the Industrial Relations Commission.”
