Many of us are familiar with our ‘love language’ and the impact it has on our relationships… but do you know your ‘cooking personality’ and the impact it can also have on our lives?

New research reveals that while Australia is a nation of proud home cooks who are passionate about food, more than half don’t know what their cooking personality is, which is causing stress both in and out of the kitchen.

Jo McManus spoke with Elisabeth Shaw, CEO of Relationships Australia’s NSW Branch to discuss how these cooking personalities can fit into our relationship.

“It’s the heart of the household. That friction and potential inequity in fairness and lack of respect for others efforts can get pretty scratchy on a bad day,” she told Jo.

Australia’s top five cooking personalities:

  • Hungry Hustler (29%): Leading a busy life that requires quick and efficient mid-week meals that save time

  • Balance Seeker (25%): Want to eat healthy and nutritious meals with variety, that suit their household’s dietary needs and preferences

  • Curious Cook (24%): Enjoy cooking and love experimenting with new ingredients, cuisines and techniques

  • Life Learner (9%): Admitting they sometimes find meal planning and cooking overwhelming and worry that the finished meal might not turn out as planned

  • Proud Plater (7%): Love cooking for others and take pride in impressing their friends and family with the finished meal
