Ahead of the service’s 140-year anniversary St John Ambulance has released a survey reporting that 72 per cent of Australians have witnessed a health or medical emergency yet 53 per cent wouldn’t be confident in their ability to provide aid in such a situation.

St John Ambulance Australia CEO Brendan Maher spoke with Julie-anne Sprague on 6PR’s Afternoons.

“Imagine an opportunity or a situation. We’re at home, a family or another gathering and you know, there wasn’t somebody there who was able to administer first aid competently,” Mr Maher said.
