Education Minister Sue Ellery has tried to set the record straight amid confusion from schools and parents on what extra curricular activities can proceed safely.

The uncertainty was highlighted on Tuesday when Canning Vale College cancelled the Year 12 school ball, only to reinstate it after backlash from students and parents on 6PR Breakfast and the principal rechecking the chief health officer’s advice.

“Your school carnivals still continue, outdoor school carnivals and interschool sports competitions continue,” Ms Ellery told Breakfast host Gareth Parker.

“Camps are really tricky because it’s close contact, eating together, sleeping together, sharing a common bathroom.

“I said two weeks ago 2022 is going to be bumpy.. in particular for school leadership, whether that’s the P & C or the school principal and their team.”
