Australians are struggling with the rising cost of living and bracing for another interest rate hike on the heels of the 0.75 percentage point rise in the United States overnight.

Data this week showed inflation hitting a 21-year high of 6.1 per cent, but Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers has said this would get worse, likely reaching 7.75 per cent in the December quarter.

Mark Glasson, Anglicare WA CEO, has told Liam Bartlett onĀ 6PR Mornings that he has seen first-hand the surge of ordinary, working households turning to charities.

“We’ve seen that over the last few months… we’re seeing a growth in the number of people coming for help,” he said.

“More than 2000 people a month contact us for help with food, rent, utilities, transport,

“The concerning bit for us is that it’s going to get worse, and we’re seeing people that we don’t normally see.”
