Stirling mayor admits E-scooter trial issues as elderly resident seriously hurt

The City of Stirling has received several complaints just one month into its 12-month trial of hop-on, hop-off E-scooters.
Promoted as a safe, convenient and environmentally-friendly way to travel, local residents have reported several close calls and injuries arising from incidents involving them.
Richard Pennington, 73, was injured on a footpath along West Coast Drive recently when a rider on one of the City’s orange E-scooters collided with him.
Richard told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings he suffered busted ribs, which could be broken but he was not covered by Medicare scans.
“I’m just worried about other people if they’re put in full time, this scooters,” he said.
City of Stirling mayor Mark Irwin said he had been in contact with Mr Pennington and admitted the City’s reply wasn’t the best.
The E-scooter company behind the trial, Neuron, said it would touch base with the elderly resident regarding insurance and other issues.
