The tributes for Queen Elizabeth II’s passing have been in abundance, leaving politicians, celebrities, athletes and public figures reflecting on their memories of the Queen.

Steve Waugh, Former Australian Cricket Captain and Australian of the Year in 2004, met the Queen a number of times and told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that she was ‘an amazing lady.’

“I had a cup a tea at Buckingham Palace with her and introduced my team to her. It is one of the highlights of my career, she left an amazing legacy and an unforgettable impression on many people,” Mr Waugh told Oly.

“It felt like you trusted her and that you knew her. She was someone who was safe, secure and consistent and I think that’s what the people loved about her. She will be missed.”

Mr Waugh also touched on his new role as a  mentor to Australian athletes along with five other members of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
