Stargazers can expect spectacular Aurora Australis displays for the next year.

For two weeks now, people in southern WA have been enjoying the light show, which peaks every 11 to 13 years.

Astronomer Rick Tonello told Chrissy Morrissey on 6PR Afternoons the colours change depending on location.

“If you’re closer to the North or South Poles, they start to glow a green colour; but if you’re slightly further away it glows a red colour, and that’s indicative of the material our atmosphere is made of,” Professor Tonello said.
