With summer approaching, the WA public will be concerned about the presence of sharks.

Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development senior research scientist from the Aquatic Science and Assessment, Mike Travers, says its shark monitoring program aims to mitigate against shark attacks and began in earnest this week.

“We’re not seeing any increase in white sharks … but these animals they don’t mature until they re 10-15 years old but, you know WA, we have healthy shark populations in general,” he said.
