The AFL has landed a $4.5 billion, seven-year broadcast deal, easily the largest in Australian history, after sticking with incumbents Seven and Foxtel to show AFL and AFLW matches until 2031.

Foxtel and Seven were forced to pay significantly more than anyone imagined due to Channel Ten and Paramount’s bid of $6 billion over 10 years.

Dr Sam Duncan, Course leader of the Sports Media and Sports Business degrees at Holmesglen Institute at Swinburne University told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that this phenomenal deal was gives the AFL “an enormous amount of certainty and money to plan their future.”

The Super Saturday will be on Foxtel for the first eight rounds, where the WA market will have access to games involving Dockers and West Coast Eagles.

“It still will be available on Channel 7 and through their streaming platform 7 Plus, even in those first eight rounds,” he told Oly.
