Remarkable twin coincidences lead hero teen to save stranger’s life on Perth train

The good Samaritan who helped save a stranger’s life on a train “feels proud” after revealing she was only on the train because she forgot it was a public holiday.
Disability worker Alanah Dunstan, 18, performed CPR on fellow train passenger Gustavo Berna, 45, after he went into cardiac arrest on his Thornlie line train in the city, relaying the frantic drama on board the carriage to 6PR Breakfast.
“I flipped him onto his back and, I felt so bad, but I yelled at the girl helping ‘can I start CPR? Can I start CPR?’, just making sure I wasn’t being silly in the moment,” she told stunned hosts Jenna Clarke and Oly Peterson, in for Gareth Parker this week.

“Time went by so quickly and we stopped at Burswood and the train driver came out and saw I was giving CPR in the aisle, then all of a sudden we were heading at breakneck speed back down to Perth [train station], where the ambulance met us there.”
The sister-in-law of the heart attack victim, Nicola, told 6PR Breakfast the family was told by doctors he would unlikely survive the ordeal if not for Alannah’s actions.
