RAC wants radical overhaul of motoring taxes, fuel excise

The RAC wants a review of all motoring taxes before an overhaul of how we fund our roads, calling for a coordinated national system to help ease cost-of-living pressures.
It says a review of all motoring taxes, including fuel excise, stamp duties and GST, is crucial, and should also examine the impacts of road use and various funding models.
Corporate affairs general manager Will Golsby said the RAC did not support the WA government’s plan for a road user charge for electric vehicle owners in 2027.
“We think that will create an issue around the uptake of EVs… no doubt they [the government] will have a shelf life for incentives, but the taxes will stay,” he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.
