There have been reports of missiles being fired and explosions lighting up the sky around Kyiv as peace talks between Ukraine and Russia wrap up.

As delegates plan further de-escalation talks, air raid sirens have sounded, sending thousands to underground subway stations, with Russia accused of attacking civilian centres.

UNICEF chief of communications James Elder told Gareth Parker on 6PR Mornings a humanitarian crisis is unfolding as displaced Ukrainians head for the Polish border.

“It’s difficult to get in, it’s a long wait and they don’t want to … leave their country,” he said.

“The world doesn’t need another country where kids think the sound of an air raid siren means they need to jump out of their beds and into their bunker.”
