Bunnings has become the subject of a privacy debate after a landmark finding by the Privacy Commissioner has found retail giant Bunnings has breached privacy laws by using facial recognition technology on its customers.

Bunnings has fought back by releasing a collection of confronting CCTV images of crime, disorder, or violent activity that Bunnings staff have to deal with.

Warning this vision is violent and might disturb some viewers.

Carly Kind, the Australian Privacy Commissioner, explains to 6PR’s Gary Adshead the issue of Bunnings using this technology without permission.

“This is a tricky area of law; it’s an evolving area,” she said.
