The WA police union has hit back at claims from the state government that there are no morale problems within the force’s ranks.

It comes after a survey, released by the WA Police Union, revealed morale among officers was at it’s lowest ever level.

The survey also revealed at least 194 officers had quit the profession in the first five months of this year.

Police Minister Paul Papalia denied there was a problem at a press conference yesterday, however, Mick Kelly, President of the WA Police Union said the survey speaks for itself.

“We had just under 2000 respond to our health survey,” he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.

“And two thirds when asked the question around what they thought the level of morale in the WA Police Force was … said the level was poor.

“No one gave it a tick of excellence, I think the minister … probably needs to get the copy of the survey from the WA police force … because he’s just sort of wipe it away.”
