A leading health sector consultant says he isn’t surprised by the decision to call off a merger between leading WA health insurer, HBF and east coast provider, HCF.

Both companies confirmed on Friday the amalgamation won’t go ahead.

Former CEO of the Private Health Insurance Administration Council Shaun Gath told Mornings with Gareth Parker, the two parties couldn’t work out a deal which could keep them both happy.
