Turning back time in the watch industry

Millsy & Karl

Watches are becoming increasingly popular after sales dropped for 18 months, but now the watch industry is steadying according to the Australian Financial Review.

Guenta Best is the President of the Master Clock and Watch Makers of WA and told 6PR Breakfast he believes there is an increase in watch sales recently, but that means there’s a shortage of mechanical watch repairers.

“Last year Swiss produced 20 million mechanical time pieces, 20 million watches. In the same time, the Chinese copied those Swiss watches and produced 40 million mechanical watches to put on the market.”

6PR listeners chimed in on the conversation with one caller saying she has 52 watches “one for every outfit”.
