Sugary drinks like cigarettes

Lisa Barnes & Geof Parry

Sugary drinks are like cigarettes; they don’t have nutritional value, but cost in health issues.

Health Minister Roger Cook said on Thursday he supports the sugar tax and wants the Federal Government to impliment the tax and AMA WA supports Minister Cook’s statement.

“Sugary, sweetened drinks really stick, they’re a little bit like smoking. They do pretty much nothing for us nutritionally, there’s nothing good about them. Apart from the fact that they might taste good,” AMA WA President Omar Khorshid told 6PR Breakfast.
“Our bodies are not designed to have large quantities of refined sugar,” he added.
