Perth music teacher nominated for an ARIA

Millsy & Karl

A Perth music teacher has become the first West Australian to be nominated for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award.

Deb Skelton’s efforts at Caladenia Primary School have earned her a nomination for the national award and it’s well deserved; Mrs Skelton teaches hundreds of students and they can now sing in multiple languages, including Nyoongar and AUSLAN.

“Definitely Nyoongar is something I’m very passionate about incorporating, we have a few Nyoongar children in our school and they are great at helping me to learn the words and learn about the culture,” Mrs Skelton told 6PR Breakfast.
