The Perth Cup has traditionally been run on the first day of the year, but the 2019 meet will be held on January 5. Perth Racing says they’ve moved the date to get the best preparation for the best field.

“We looked at what the best program is to get the best horses ready for the Perth Cup to protect its starters, we don’t want it downgraded,” the Managing Director of Perth Racing, John Yovich told 6PR Breakfast.

Mr Yovich told Steve and Baz there are another two races in the lead up to the Perth Cup,
“the three Saturday sequence allows the best preparation for these horses,” he said.
