New laws to force priests to report sex abuse

Religious ministers would be forced to report child sexual abuse to police – even if they learn about it through confession – under proposed changes to the state’s Children and Community Services Act.

Child Protection Minister Simone McGurk told Mornings with Gareth Parker it’s part of the government’s response to the Child Sex Abuse Royal Commission.

Director of the LJ Goody Bioethics Centre, Father Joe Parkinson told Gareth, it may see some clergy caught between two laws.
