New $50 million bridge planned for Perth

Steve Mills and Basil Zempilas

Plans for a bridge stretching hundreds of metres across the Swan River will be unveiled by the State Government today.  The bridge will be constructed west of the Causeway, connecting Victoria Park with the CBD via Heirisson Island.

The pedestrian and cycle bridge is estimated to cost about $50 million.  Work is underway on the final design with tenders due to be released next year.

Rita Saffioti, State Minister for Transport says “it’s an exciting new project, a challenging new project which is much overdue and will be so well used.”
