Have your say on euthanasia laws

Public consultation has begun as the State Government continues in the process of developing legislation for Voluntary Assisted Dying.

Former WA Governor Malcolm McCusker is heading up an expert panel providing advice to the Government on what the legislation should look like.

The panel has today released a discussion paper for public comment and will hold public comment sessions across the state over the coming months.

Health Minister Roger Cook says the consultation will assist in developing criteria around who can access euthanasia.

He also told Oliver Peterson today, “we want as many people as possible to participate as this isn’t just about the medical profession. This is everyone’s business.

“We will all at some stage in our life be confronted with end of life issues and decisions.

“We want there to be safeguards to ensure the system is not abused.”

The discussion paper and more information about the planned consultation sessions and upcoming legislation can be found at http://www.health.wa.gov.au/voluntaryassisteddying
