Controversial wave park scrapped

The McGowan Government has rejected an application from the City of Melville to utilise Crown land for a Wave Park project at Tompkins Park in Alfred Cove.

Lands Minister Ben Wyatt spoke to Oliver Peterson today about the decision.

“In the end I made a decision that it wasn’t the right location for this particular proposal. I think its actually good proposal and I think its something I’m keen to make work, but just not in that location.

“I’ve been aware of the local discontent. Very few issues generate this sort of anger that’s clearly come out from not just those immediately near the wave park but also broadly through the community.”
