Controversial ground suits Freo: Matera

Fremantle host the West Coast Eagles in the 47th Derby, with possibly the most controversial build up, at Optus Stadium this Sunday, and Brandon Matera says Freo has everything going for them.

Fremantle announced earlier this week they were scrapping the Ross Glendinning Medal awarded to the best on ground for the derby. While the AFL said the Optus Stadium ground was too hard and Fremantle and West Coast cancelled training at the ground for the next three weeks while it’s fixed.

But despite all the issues, Matera says the ground suits them and they remain unbeaten at Optus Stadium.

“We’re in pretty good form and especially at this Stadium, we’re three from three now, we can play the ground really well… We should be favourites,” Brandon Matera told 6PR Breakfast.

Steve and Baz also asked Matera about the re-naming of the Ross Glendinning Medal and the small forward said: “Fremantle’s been around long enough, it’s a new stadium, new era, they should change it up.”
