Be prepared, but not panicked: disaster response researcher

A disaster response researcher at Edith Cowan University is urging people to prepare now for the arrival of coronavirus – but is cautioning against going over the top.

Supermarket shelves are being stripped bare of items such as toilet paper and pasta – as people respond to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

The number of confirmed cases in Australia is more than 40 – with the second confirmed death overnight.

Erin Smith told Gareth Parker on Mornings while people are fearful – it’s important to remain calm and ensure we take practical measures.

She suggests having a month’s worth of prescription medication in your house plus stocking up on a  sensible amount of pantry staples.
