Are Monkey Bars A Big Danger In Playgrounds?

Last week Oliver Peterson told us about research out of Monash University that suggested monkey bars should be removed from playgrounds. This is due to the number of injuries children receive while playing on them.

Today he spoke to Kidsafe WA Playground Advisory Service Manager Tracy Blaszkow about how the benefits of playing on equipment like monkey bars, outweigh the risks.

“Kids no longer have that upper body strength from hanging on the monkey bars because they’re not playing outside.

“We’re actually doing our kids an injustice by wrapping them up in cotton wool.”
